God bless your way home, Mama Susing

Diwata ValdenorCondolence to her family and to all of us. God bless your way home, Mama Susing.

I am blessed to have still met you back in 2012 and to receive Lolo Beato’s published book straight from you. I can’t forget the excitement and the look on your face when Nanay told you that I was a journalism graduate and that I write my own poems and short stories. You started telling me that being a writer was my heritage and that I should just keep writing. You immediately instructed someone to get a copy of the book. You said that you’re addressing it to the whole family but that you’d want me to be its keeper because as a writer I would learn a lot from it and that Lolo Beato would’ve wanted me to keep it. I got teary eyed back then because I was honored to be entrusted such a book, such a legacy.

Mama Susing, thank you so much for that short yet memorable time with you. I’m not writing as a journalist right now but I am still writing prose and poetry and I will continue to do so.

Thank you so much Mama, I love you.
